Per's liner notes:

"A heart and a soul, filled with rhythm'n blues - she wants pulse..."

The third album. We wanted to do something more than what everyone expected. A little noisier, a little smarter and more worked through ideas. We wanted a more "open" sound with much more atmosphere and air. More exactly that meant that we moved all mikes back 10 meters. We also wanted to make use of other musicians for the first time. Oboe and strings were included and the incredible Kjell Öhman on accordion for example. The EMI Studio was booked from February 1982 until somewhere in June that same year. We had lots of tracks, but no single, or so it felt. I had always wanted to write a typical summer track so the idea for "Sommartider" was born somewhere in May. It was the last track we recorded.

The pressure to make a follow-up to "Moderna Tider" existed, but we also knew what we could and the big problem was more like in what direction the album should point. Most of the tracks that were recorded were not on the LP when it was originally released: "Bara vara nära" (which at one stage actually was a single candidate) , "Hej!" (which originally was thought to be the opening track), "Skäl att tvivla" (which we got tired of, Maria Wickman (Basse's sister) recorded that instead), "Vart tog alla vänner vägen?" (was first called "Just another heartache" and was written for the group The Radio, but instead made it as the B-side on the "Sommartider" single along with "Tylö sun"), "Offside!" (had a killer guitar solo played by our technician Björne Boström, but it was only released by the music club Nalle Puh on their tape called "Rockriff från Halmstad".  Nevertheless, "Puls" included many of our greatest moments: "Vandrar i ett sommarregn" (with Eva Dahlgren on vocals), "Jag vänder mej om" (which is one of the best tracks Mats and I have written together), "Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång" (which somehow feels like the last real Gyllene Tider lyrics).I have always thought that "Puls" was our last "real" album. Not just because it's the last in Swedish but mostly because 82-83 was a time of change for each and every one of us. Everyone except me did military servive, I started instead to plan the recording of a solo LP, Anders and Micke wanted to play with other artists and sow their wild-oats as studio-musicians. Instead of doing a "normal" five months tour we chose to do a short round in the parks for 6 weeks before the album was released. That was it.

In the same month as "Puls" was released (August – we got brilliant reviews!) Frida's first solo album was also released. I had written one track for it, "Threnody", and Gyllene Tider's version that was recorded for yet another Kjell Andersson project, "Radio Parlophone", is on this CD. "Marie, Marie" was also recorded for "Radio Parlophone" and many of our friends are playing along: Nicke Strömstedt on piano and backing vocals, Lasse Lindbom on acoustic guitar and vocals, Janne Bark on electric guitar and vocals, Pelle Siren played the guitar solo.

I have absolute no recollection of us recording "I Go to Pieces", I know though that it was on the flip side of "Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång". "Hi Fidelity" was written as a sort of signature to EMI's new label with the same name. We recorded it in Getinge just outside Halmstad where we also did "Ingenting av vad du behöver" as a Christmas gift for the readers of Schlager. In the background you can hear for the first time in our company our good friend Marie Fredriksson. Take, by the way, a look at the picture with the open campfire, taken in Haverdal, Marie is with us even then. "Puls" debuted on the number 1 spot on the list of sold records, and sold about 180.000 copies, mostly thanks to "Sommartider" which was our most popular track. Without any doubt.
